Breast Lift Scar

The recovery process for getting a breast lift is relatively painless; after coming out of anesthesia, the patient will be placed on a recliner and led to the recovery room. It is normal to have a number of ailments after coming out of anesthesia: sadness, depression, dizziness, anxiety, etc. The feeling resembles being drunk but with less control over movements of the body. In addition, the feeling of the shakes that comes with excessive drinking is similar to the shakes that sometimes occur with coming out of anesthesia. Recovery will be tracked by a monitoring system, and pain medication can be given if needed. Based on which type of anesthesia was utilized, the patient is typically sent home several hours after the procedure. Sometimes with general anesthesia, the patient is asked to stay past the several hour recovery period. Lastly, the surgeon may ask that the patient urinate—in order to release the high amounts of saline in the system.

A surgical bra is always useful after surgery; even a lightweight bra over the gauze can help to cushion the breasts, and it is very easy to change the gauze when needed. In rare circumstances, a small tube for draining can be put in the breasts to help remove fluids. For several weeks, the patient should continue to wear the surgical bra, at least until the swelling diminishes. Sometimes dissolvable sutures are used, which makes the removal of the stitches that much easier. Of course a variety of pain medications can be requested by the patient, but most of them opt for simple, over-the-counter pain relievers.

Some draining from the wound is considered normal, but severe bleeding and pain is something that should be mentioned to the surgeon. A lot of patients are up-and-around on the day of surgery, while others may take a bit longer. However, the patient needs to take at least a week away from work, and lifting heavy items is absolutely off limits for several weeks. Sexual activity should also be put on hold for at least a week, and sports should be avoided for a month. Swelling and residual scarring usually disappears after a few weeks, but it can take up to an entire year before the breasts gain their expected shape. Pregnancies, weight-gain, hormonal fluctuations, and other changes will affect the shape of the breasts. Moreover, a breast lift will not create firmness interminably; the patient must view the procedure as a step in the right direction towards health and appearance. Plenty of rest, a healthy diet, and exercise are all equally as important to self-fulfillment, and plastic surgery should only be viewed as a small part of that puzzle.
